So, you've found a job listing on Craigslist or Deb Ng's Freelance Writing Jobs blog ... now what? Well, if the job listing says what to do, your job is easy. Just follow the instructions. If you aren't sure what you're supposed to do, here's how I'd approach it.
- Write a friendly email. The email should state how you found the job listing, what the listing is for, and why you're qualified. Make it 2-3 short paragraphs.
- Resume and Samples. At the end of the email, say, "You will find my resume and samples pasted in the body of this email." Never use attachments - some people don't like that and it could cost you the job.
- Make them relevant. Tweak your resume and your samples so it highlights your expertise that will give you the position.
- Follow up. After about a week, follow up with a friendly email, asking about the status of your application.
